Evidently, the Sena’s women brigade has played a vital role in helping the crumbling Sena return to power in the civic polls after a huge defeat in the assembly and parliamentary polls.
Out of the 75 Shiv Sena candidates elected in the Mumbai civic polls, 44 are women.

According to a senior corporator, the Sena’s women brigade is notorious in the BMC. “They fight any issue tooth and nail. And whenever an issue is raised in the general body meeting, the Sena’s women are always in the forefront. They never let down their male corporators and no one dares speak against them and their leader in house meetings. Now, they will have even more power,” he said.
Former Sena mayor Shubha Raul and mayor Shraddha Jadhav were elected by a huge margin.
The Sena had given tickets to 79 women, among whom 44 were elected. “Chief minister Prithviraj Chavan introduced 50% reservation for women in the local body election. This helped the Sena and played a crucial role in holding the fort despite the anti-incumbency factor,” said the Congress corporator.
After the decision to reserve 50% of seats for women, many political outfits struggled to find the right women candidates. But, the Sena comfortably narrowed down on their women candidates.
Besides the reserved wards, the Sena gave tickets to many women who contested from open wards, including mayor Shraddha Jadhav. Jadhav defeated four-time Congress corporator Ravi Raja in a Parel locality. “Most of our local area presidents are women. It helps groom the leadership in the right direction. I am happy that this time too, many women candidates have been elected,” said a Sena candidate who got elected.
