To help you book your place in the retiring rooms of railway stations in the same way as booking outstation train tickets, dedicated ticket windows at major railway stations centres which house Passenger Reservation Systems (PRS) will be up and running soon.

In the city, a separate window has been opened alongside the enquiry counter for outstation trains at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) for the purpose.

Central Railway’s chief spokesperson VA Malegaonkar said test runs for the systems are presently underway. Bookings for retiring rooms at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) and New Delhi railway station, which also has a dedicated booking window for the purpose, have started and eventually, commuters will be able to book retiring rooms for all stations which have them, across the country.

In the Mumbai Metropolitan Region,  only CST has retiring rooms. A senior Central Railway (CR) official told DNA that a plan is being conceptualised presently to add more rooms on the first floor. “The additional space is being created after relocation of ticket collectors’ rest house.”

The official estimated that phase 2, which involves making the website for this service operational, could take at least a year. “It is a programme of the railway board, so it’s difficult to tell when the website will be operational. However, once more stations  have the facility, the website should begin to function,” he said.
