Sardar Shitole of Gwalior dies at 87

Sardar Krishnarao Malojirao Shitole, from the erstwhile princely family of the Shitoles of Gwalior, died in Pune on June 29 at the age of 87.

Sardar Krishnarao Malojirao Shitole, from the erstwhile princely family of the Shitoles of Gwalior, died in Pune on June 29 at the age of 87.

The last rites were performed in the presence of his family members and friends at the Vaikunth crematorium.

Born on October 30, 1923 in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, descendent of the Rajput lineage of the royal Sisodias, Sardar  Shitole completed his primary education from Scindia School, Gwalior Fort, followed by his senior Cambridge from Sherwood College, Nainital (Uttaranchal).

He later graduated with a degree in history, political science and English from Banaras Hindu University.

An expert in martial arts and weaponry, Sardar Shitole had a compassionate heart and always extended a helping hand to the needy.

History and mythology was his special field of interest, with a command over both English and Hindi. He was also involved in India’s struggle for freedom.

He is survived by his children, Sidhojiraoraje, Pralhadraoraje, daughters Yashodhararaje, Hemanganaraje and grandsons.
