The secret of master blaster Sachin Tendulkar’s missing gold memento has been unravelled and the police did not have to work too hard considering the alleged culprit surrendered it.

However, he did not plead guilty as the memento going missing was a case of misunderstanding and not theft. The gold disk that was assumed stolen had been accidentally exchanged with that of another award receiver who handed it over to the organisers.

The incident took place during a programme to release a CD of Sachin’s late father’s poems at Rang Sharda auditorium in Bandra on Saturday. The mementos were placed in similar-looking boxes.

Thirteen people were conferred with silver awards. Two gold mementos were conferred to Sachin and his mother. Sachin collected the memento on her behalf and kept it on the side along with the other mementos.

“A silver memento was also given to the marketing manager of the company that had launched the disks. As the  manager forgot to pick it up, he asked one of his colleagues to do it for him,” said S Sajgiri, an organiser of the event.

The misunderstanding was cleared after the person who had accidentally picked up the gold memento mistaking it for a silver one returned it to the organisers.
