Residents of Dosti Acres and Bhakti Park in Wadala (East) are finally a relieved lot. After six months of complaining about the yellow ammonia fumes emitting from the Rashtriya Chemical Fertilisers (RCF) chimney, five RCF officials visited Dosti Acres on Monday to find remedial measures.
DNA on July 18, were the first to report about the plight of the residents. Locals had alleged that RCF’s blatant release of ammonia in the air had increased cases of breathlessness, throat infection, asthma and respiratory disorders. The yellow coloured fumes would settle down in the garden at Bhakti Park, affecting senior citizens, who took their morning walks.
“The team said they didn’t expect Dosti Acres to get the ammonia smell as it is far away from the plant. But, they understood the gravity of the problem and have reassured us that ammonia would no longer be released in the air,” said Bipin Pandit, a resident of Dosti Acres.
“Henceforth, ammonia smell will not reach Wadala. It was for the first time that we received a complaint from Wadala. Rectification is already in process and if there’s a leak, the residents can get in touch with us,” said AN Gandhe, chief manager, RCF.
