NAGPUR: Members of the Buddhist community on Wednesday burnt effigy of Bollywood 'item girl' Rakhi Sawant alleging she hurt the religious sentiments of the community.

The protesters, led by Nagpur (North) MLA Nitin Raut and Congress leader Munna Ojha, burnt the effigy on Buddha Purnima day today near Deekshabhoomi here, where late Dalit leader Babasaheb Ambedkar had embraced Buddhism way back on October 14, 1956.

In a TV programme, the actress was shown taking bath in a tub with a Lord Buddha statue in the background.

Enraged by the show, a group of Buddhist leaders lodged an FIR with Frezarpura police station in Amravati district which registered an offence under section 295 of IPC (injuring or defiling place of worship, with intent to insult the religion of any class), two days back.
