The Bandra metropolitan magistrate’s court on Monday adjourned the hearing in a case against Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray till June 23, 2011.

The Mumbai police had filed a 73-page charge-sheet against Raj and 20 others for rioting and assaulting North Indian students appearing for railway recruitment examinations at Chetana college in Bandra in 2008.

Raj’s counsel Prashant Pansare told DNA that he could not appear in court for personal reasons. The judge allowed the exemption application filed since the MNS chief could not attend the hearing, said Pansare. He said this was the first hearing since the charge-sheet was filed.

The police have filed many cases based on various incidents, but this is the only case where a charge-sheet was filed against Raj.
He was arrested on October 21, 2009 and was later granted bail.
