Praj Industries has chosen well-known economist and chairman of the National Stock Exchange of India Limited, Vijay Kelkar, for the lifetime achievement award under the Maha-Intraprenuer Award 2011.

This was announced by executive chairman of Praj Industries, Pramod Chaudhari, at a press conference on Wednesday. Vivek Sane, director, Symbiosis Institute of Business Management (SIBM), Pune, was also present at the meet.
The awards were instituted by Praj Industries, in association with SIBM, during their silver jubilee celebrations in 2008-2009.
The award is divided into three categories: Category ‘A’ consists of industry and business, while category ‘B’ includes NGOs, semi government, societies and trusts. The third category is the lifetime achievement award.
Harshavardhan Jajoo, CEO and MD, CAN-PACK India Pvt Ltd, Aurangabad, and PC Nambiar, director-group Exim, Serum Institute of India Ltd, Pune, have been selected for the award in the first category.
The winners in the second category are Dr Anil Sahasrabuddhe, director, College of Engineering and Yogesh Kulkarni, executive director, Vigyan Ashram, Pabal.
Chaudhari said, “Since 2009, we have also started giving special recognition to women in both the categories. The award is named as ‘Women Intrapreneur Awards’.”
The women whose names have been declared for the award in both categories are Shobha Santosh, director, Fujitsu Consulting India, Pune, and Meera Badve, founder-director, Niwant Andh Mukta Vikasalaya, Pune.
“In the first year, we had declared awards as per our understanding, but later we started inviting nominations and set up a jury to select and interview the nominees and then finalise the winners,”
Chaudhari said .
Sane, the director of SIBM, said, “We joined hands with Praj Industries so that our students also get to learn about things outside the classroom from the right people. Entrepreneurship or Intrapreneurship cannot be taught within four walls, which is why we got ourselves and our students involved in this initiative.”
A book on last year’s winners has been published by SIBM, and Sane has promised to release this year’s book, ‘The spirit of Intrapreneurship’, within six months.
According to Chaudhari, “Intrapreneurship is a special word designed to designate the internal innovators. Usually individual entrepreneurs get recognition, but entrepreneurs who work behind the scenes are never recognised. This award is specially designed to give recognition and praise to such innovators.”
Each awardee in Category A will be presented a trophy, a certificate of appreciation and a fellowship of Rs1 lakh to attend executive development programme at any reputed institute in India. While in category ‘B’, the prize money is
given to Individual winners/ organisations.
The award function will be held on December 24 and the awards will be presented by Abhay Firodia, chairman and MD, Force Motors Limited and president of MCCIA.
