Though the trial in the Neeraj Grover murder case started in April 2009, there were several factors during the course of the proceedings that delayed the judgment.

The first delay happened during the beginning of the trial when Emille Jerome, a naval officer, contested that the case be tried under the martial law and not in a civilian court. However, the police challenged it and approached the defence authorities. The police were finally allowed to take the case under the civilian law but by that time around three months had passed.

Another delay happened when a northern suburb-based woman, who is a witness in the case and was close to the accused, was allegedly threatened. Two advocates were arrested in the case. The third delay happened last year when gangsters Mustafa Dossa and Abu Salem had a quarrel inside the Arthur Road jail. Jerome, who was a witness in the case, had to be transferred to Taloja jail for safety leading to some delay.
