The home department has demanded an unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) helicopter for the operations in the Naxal areas.
The state government has decided to follow up on its demand of the drone that could play a crucial role in the surveillance of the Naxal-affected areas.

The home department made a presentation about the naxal movement and the police preparedness in the Naxal-hit areas of the state. S Vires Prabhu, superintendent of police from Gadchiroli, showcased the preparedness of the force, including the total number of police personnel, arms and ammunition used and Naxal base camps.

It was also brought to the notice of Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan that the naxal groups have been using state-of-the-art weapo-ns and equipment. The department emphasised on boosting social development to wane the influence of the movement. It was also suggested to fill the 8,000 vacant administrative posts to ensure development of the areas.

Home minister RR Patil said the state would demand for a UAV helicopter for effective operations. “The police force has sufficient and state-of-the-art arms. Our focus is on social development and a committee of home and general administrative department will suggest us on the measures to be undertaken.”
