Chief minister Prithviraj Chavan once again came down on the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and blamed it for opposing good projects just for the sake of it and creating hurdles in development.

He was addressing a public rally in Gokhalenagar on Monday. Stating that the Congress had to face opposition from the NCP while sharing power with it at the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), he said it was difficult to achieve development because of the politics played by the NCP.

“Whether it is the metro project or biodiversity park issue that delayed the passing of development plan, the NCP always took a diverse stand which created obstacles. Time was wasted in petty politics and the struggle to take away credit for schemes during the joint rule of the NCP and the Congress in the city,” he said.

He appealed to the people to give ultimate power to the Congress so that it can concentrate on development rather than politics.
Saying that Delhi Metro Railway Corporation had submitted a techno-economic report to the government, he asserted that it is wise to go as per the experts’ views.

He felt that instead of a dispute on differences, focus should be on sorting out differences and finding solutions to take forward schemes and projects.

Chavan reiterated that the BJP or Shiv Sena were not as powerful to pose a challenge for the Congress. “Except in a few pockets, BJP and Shiv Sena are almost non-existent. They will lose power even in the few corporations where they are ruling at present,” predicted Chavan.

The Congress rules at the centre and the state and therefore it would be easy to bring in funds and achieve development if it comes to power in PMC, he stated.

He said the party intended to bring about the Rs820 crore river development project and Rajiv Gandhi Jeevandayi Arogya Yojana for the underprivileged. He promised transparency in the administration if voted to power.
