Get ready for sultry and sweaty afternoons with the mercury climbing to 4 degrees more than Tuesday’s temperature of 34.2 degree Celsius.

The city’s temperature soared to 37.5 degree Celsius on Wednesday, after experiencing the lowest temperature last week.
On Tuesday, Santa Cruz recorded a maximum temperature of 34.2 degree Celsius and Colaba recorded 31.7 degree Celsius. The minimum temperature in Colaba and Santa Cruz was 21.4 C and 19.0 C respectively on Tuesday.

On Saturday, the city recorded its lowest March temperature of 12.7 degree Celsius.

Wednesday’s maximum temperatures at both the weather stations were 4 degrees above normal. The minimum temperature recorded at Santa Cruz was 4 degrees below normal and Colaba 1 degree below normal.

“The temperature has increased because of the change in wind direction from north easterly to easterly. March to April is considered transition period and there will be fluctuations in the temperature,” said an official from India Meteorological Department.

Today’s easterly winds were stronger which did not allow the sea breeze to set in on time, leading to an increase in maximum temperature. The case is same in all other coastal regions, added the official.

“Compared to the last December, the daylight radiation has increased significantly. After March 23, the sun will move from the south hemisphere and enter the northern hemisphere. This will lead to a rise in temperature. The soaring mercury is the indication of it,” the official said.

In summer, 31 to 32 degree Celsius is considered to be the normal maximum temperature and 20 to 12 degree Celsius is the normal minimum temperature.

The weathermen predict that the temperature would remain the same for the next two days. “The maximum temperature will be around 36 degree Celsius and minimum would be 18 degree Celsius in next 24 hours,” said the official.
