“The alleged incident took place on April 25. But, the victim was too scared to tell anything to her elder sister and brother-in-law. However, she finally mustered the courage and told her brother-in-law on April 28,” said a sub-inspector, adding that they have registered a case of rape and threat to kill the victim.
The teenager, a resident of Ganesh Murthy Nagar, was accosted by a 25-year-old man, who pushed her into an empty room in the area by threatening to kill her and raped her repeatedly. His three friends kept watch outside the room.
Suresh Katre, the brother-in-law, was also beaten up when Roopa Ghare, the victim, showed him one of the culprits and Katre caught hold of him. The culprit then called up the other three from his cell phone. They came there with steel pipes and bashed Katre up. He was taken to GT hospital for treatment, and, later, a complaint was lodged.
Ghare, who hails from Basti district in Uttar Pradesh, had come to Mumbai a month ago. The incident took place around 2pm when she had gone to bring home her four-year-old nephew who was playing nearby. The four, also nearby, saw her pass. One of them accosted her and pushed her into an empty room, while his friends locked the door from outside. He threatened her that he would break her neck if she made any noise. He, then, tied her hands and raped her repeatedly.
Before letting her go, he threatened her again. His friends opened the door and the four left the spot.
