The Vile Parle police have arrested three people who killed a 43-year-old man on Saturday because he spoke obscenely about the wife of one of the accused.

The arrested accused were identified as Sudhir Thorat, 36, Pradeep Yadav, 28 and Ram Pandit, 24.

According to the police, the deceased, Kiran Shankar Mohite, lived in Bhayander with his two sons, aged five and three. His wife left him a year ago.

On Saturday night around 9pm, the police recovered Mohite’s body from United Planet Industrial Estate in Vile Parle after a canteen owner informed them about the body. They sent the body to Cooper hospital for post mortem.

“We identified Mohite from the pan card and other documents in his pockets. There were several injury marks on his face. We checked the calls that were made on Mohite’s mobile and finally got the number of one Hitesh Ghargi, who had called Mohite several times on Saturday,” said a police officer.

“We questioned Ghargi and he told us that the number was being used by Sudhir Thorat. We then started tracking Thorat’s number and located him at Pune,” said police officer.

A police team consisting of assistant police inspector, M Desai and police sub inspector Dinkar Raut and a few constables went to Pune. “The team nabbed Thorat and Pandit in Pune and after interrogating them, they also arrested Yadav” said senior police inspector NJ Patil, of Vile Parle police station.

“During interrogation, the accused revealed that Mohite always talk obscenely about Thorat’s wife, who allegedly used to be a bar girl,” said another officer.

“On Saturday, the trio met the deceased at Vile Parle. Mohite once again spoke vulgarly about Thorat’s wife. Thorat got angry and started beating Mohite. Yadav and Pandit also joined in. They hit Mohite on his face with a stone, which was the cause of his death,” said Patil. “They dumped body near a canteen and ran away. A canteen owner noticed the body and informed the police” said police officer. The trio have been remanded in police custody till August 12.
