The state government may make it mandatory to install noise barriers at construction sites, minister of state for urban development Bhaskar Jadhav informed the legislative council on Wednesday.

“We will incorporate the condition of installing noise barriers at all construction sites to cut down noise pollution,” Jadhav said.
He admitted that noise pollution was at its highest levels at construction sites and assured that strict measures would be taken to stop it.

In residential areas, the limit for noise levels is 50 decibel in the morning and 40 decibel at night. In commercial areas, it is 60 decibels and 55 decibels respectively.

“One vehicle at the construction site causes 60-70 decibels of noise. Noise barriers along with a debris management plan should be a must for a construction permit,” Jadhav said.

Shiv Sena member Deepak Sawant had raised the issue of noise pollution at construction sites.
