Unidentified people vandalised the office of a Jesuit father, Walter Albert Saldhana (74), on Sunday.

The miscreants tried to manhandle the father, who is director of Stephen Nivas, a hostel for college students, on St Vincent's Street in Camp. Father Saldhana lodged a complaint at the Charbaudi police chowki.

The police said the group arrived at the hostel and three of them went up to the  office on the first floor. "The trio overturned the table and tried to beat the father," the police added.

One Rashad Sheikh, who knew the father, obtained details of an illegal water pipeline under the Right To Information Act, 2005 from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). Later, the PMC officials snapped the water supply to a local mosque.

"Some locals thought Father Saldhana was instrumental in disruption of the water supply," the police said. Senior police inspector of Lashkar police station, Sushma Chavan, said, "We are investigating the matter and would try to resolve the dispute amicably."
