Gangster Bunty Pandey led an austere life in Vietnam, say police officers

Gangster Bunty Pandey, who has given sleepless nights to several businessmen and wealthy citizens of the city, himself didn’t get the leisure to lead a rich life. Police interrogators have revealed that Pandey used to travel by bicycles during his stay in places like Cambodia and Vietnam.

Pandey has been changing his location from once place to another, and has been shuttling between Cambodia, Thailand, Bangladesh, Singapore, Nepal and Vietnam. The police also grilled him about his lifestyle, and asked him if he had bought any properties abroad.

“He told us that he was unable to buy any property, because in countries like Cambodia and Vietnam, properties are provided only on lease license, and can’t be purchased. Hence, he used to stay at rented accommodations.

"He also said that he preferred using cycles as a mode of transport, as buying cars for an outsider was cumbersome,” a crime branch officer said.

He added that he wouldn’t go out too much, as he was scared of being identified by security agencies.

What the police also want to know is where Pandey used the money he had earned from his extortion syndicate.

“He claims to have made nearly four to five crores from the extortion racket. He has not said anything about where he spent the money. He just says that he used to get money through hawala or through money transfer agencies,” said the officer.
