Expelled girl is more traumatised in new school, mum tells high court

Although the Bombay high court had felt that Adhishree Gopalkrishnan’s return to Vibgyor High School in Goregaon would cause her trauma, her mother, through a review petition filed in the court on Tuesday, said the child’s trauma has been aggravated after going to a new school in Chembur.

The 13-year-old was expelled from the school, run by the Rustom Kerawalla Foundation, on June 2. She had earlier written a letter to the chief justice of the court.

Gopalkrishnan’s mother Avisha, arguing in person on Tuesday, told the court that her daughter was suffering from anxiety attacks as she has been labelled as a rejected student.

“She wakes up at odd hours in the night and cries sitting by the window,” Avisha told the court. “Save her from all these anxieties.”

“I fail to understand why the school has expelled her because they have issues with me. I’m her mother. I’ll not use my child to get anything,” Avisha said urging the judges to modify their earlier order.

A bench headed by chief justice Mohit Shah reserved the order in this case till August 30.

Arguing for Vibgyor High, senior advocate Janak Dwarkadas said that Gopalkrishnan would undergo stress if she was forced to remain in a school where the atmosphere had been vitiated. The school, however, had offered to help her get admission in another ICSE school in the vicinity.
