Ex-Pune Municipal Corporation employees stay put in flats

Corporator of ruling Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Avinash Jadhav, on Thursday severely criticised the municipal administration for alleged inaction in vacating flats of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) occupied by retired employees.

He said that even though he belongs to the ruling party, the administration is not taking any action despite being reminded repeatedly. Municipal commissioner Mahesh Zagade did not solve the problem in spite of being told about it by the deputy chief minister, Ajit Pawar, about three months ago.

Jadhav is a corporator of municipal ward no 83, Ghorpade Peth Udyan. The PMC colony no 7 comes under his ward, where employees of PMC, including officers, reside.

He said that there are 323 flats of average 250 square feet each in PMC colony no 7. Of these 87 flats are occupied by either retired or dismissed employees or by families of those deceased. Most of the retired employees are living for last 15 years after retirement.
He said as per legal provisions, the retired employees have to vacate the flat of PMC after retirement. But as many of them are not vacating flats, those employees who are in need of accommodation do not get them.

He said that he has repeatedly informed the PMC administration about the problem. They have only given notices to these retired employees, but no action has been taken even after giving the ‘final notice.’

He said, “The activity of the administration has come to a standstill. Officers do not take action. Even if they do, they take it only for their interests.”
