The long pending Dharavi redevelopment project may have some hope as Maharashtra Government today held discussions to develop one of the sectors with the help of the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA).

"The possibility of MHADA developing the sector number three as a pilot project was discussed at a meeting held today chaired by chief minister Prithviraj Chavan but nothing has been finalised," minister of state for housing, Sachin Ahir said.

Claiming that the MHADA has sufficient funds to develop the project, Ahir said the planning has to be done for the sector first.

Asia's largest slum, Dharavi, has been divided into five sector redevelopment model. As per the original plan, no developer or consortium will be allowed to bid for more than one sector to ensure competition.

However, out of seven bidders, only four are in race after delay in the process of finalising the developer. The bidding process may be cancelled if the government decide to give the project to MHADA for the development.
