For the three girls at a brothel in the city, the husband of their housemate turned out to be the knight in shining armour.

According to officers from the social service branch, a 20-year-old homemaker from Bangalore was abducted by a trafficker on October 7 when she was returning from her maternal house, about 80km away from her home, and sold to a brothel in Mumbai.
The victim was befriended by a man while she was waiting to board a train back home. Minutes into their conversation, he offered her a cup of tea.

“Soon after she drank it, she fell unconscious, as the tea was laced with a sedative. When she regained consciousness, she found herself in a bus with that man in the adjacent seat,” said a police officer.

On being questioned, he told her that they were nearing Mumbai and threatened to kill her if she raised an alarm.

“The unknown trafficker then took the victim to Grant Road and kept her in a room for five days. Later, he sold her to a brothel at Jamna Mansion in the Khetwadi area,” the police officer said.

To the homemaker’s luck, her ‘client’ at the brothel was kind-hearted. After she told him about her abduction and asked him for help, he made a phone call to her husband in Bangalore and gave him her location in the city.

The husband then hit upon an idea and arrived at the brothel as a customer. After meeting his wife there, he informed the police of her being forced into prostitution.

“We then laid a trap at the brothel on October 23 and rescued his wife and three other girls. We have also arrested brothel keeper Sunita Pujari and are on the lookout for others involved in this flesh trade,” the police officer said.
