All in a (holi)day’s work: 30,679 cases settled in Pune

More than 71,000 cases were pending in different courts of Pune district, of which 30,679 were settled during the day-long Maha Lok Adalat on Sunday, organised by the Pune district legal services authority (PDLSA).

More than 71,000 cases were pending in different courts of Pune district, of which 30,679 were settled during the day-long Maha Lok Adalat on Sunday, organised by the Pune district legal services authority (PDLSA).

The event attracted huge response from litigants and involved various cases of criminal, civil and domestic violence.
Member secretary of the PDLSA, RK Malabade said, “We successfully disposed of permanently more than 30,000 cases in a day. There would be no provision of appeal in the apex court.”

According to Malabade, a total of 14,204 pending cases were disposed of at the Pune district court and as many as 16,475 cases were settled in various courts in the city and talukas.

A panel member said many cases registered under the section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, were disposed of amicably. Similarly, many toll cases and motor vehicle accident cases were disposed of.

Malabade said, “We are taking stock of how many cases under various criteria of criminal, civil and domestic violence have been disposed, so that in a day or two we can announce it.”
