Adarsh Society secretary moves Bombay HC, seeks defreezing of bank accounts

RC Thakur, chief secretary of controversial Adarsh Housing Society who is also made an accused in the scam, has approached the Bombay High Court seeking de-freezing of is bank accounts.
 
A division bench of justice AM Khanwilkar and justice PD Kode has directed CBI to file its reply on September 28.
 
Advocates for Thakurs – Girish Kulkarni and Saket Mone – argued that the CBI had frozen bank accounts of Thakur and his family while investigating the scam.
 
Apart from him, his wife Pramila, son Navin and daughter-in-law Arti have also filed the petition seeking direction to be issued to CBI to defreeze his bank accounts.
 
Thakur has stated in his petition that the CBI's act of freezing not only his but also his family's bank accounts is infringing upon their fundamental rights.
 
Mone said that the CBI has seized six bank accounts belonging to the Thakur family.
 
The accounts at State Bank of India had around Rs 40 lakh in them.
 
Their petitions pray that the CBI order of freezing be quashed and permit them to operate the bank accounts and their lockers.
 
Thakur has been named as a prime accused by CBI, which was handed over the probe by the Defence Ministry.
 
According to the CBI, the society in connivance with bureaucrats and defence officials flouted rules and regulations during construction of the plush 31-storey building in south Mumbai.
