The Nagpada police on Thursday arrested two people for allegedly killing their 24-year-old friend in front of his wife by banging his head on the electric pole at Nagpada.

The victim was beaten up because of an argument over his stolen phone.  “Sagar alias Chakla Kharwa, 22 and his associate— Vicky alias Paav Kharva, 19, were arrested by the police and remanded to police custody for seven days by the local court on Friday, “ said a police officer of the Nagpada police station. He added that the victim, Sunil Mandale, did not lodge a complaint of theft at the police station.

The accused and the victim were childhood friends. The incident took place at Kamathipura Lane on Thursday. Sunil Mandale had lost his mobile phone four days ago before the murder. He suspected Sagar and Vicky of stealing his phone. He was looking for them but had not come across them in those four days.

At around 3pm at Kamathipura lane, Mandale with his wife Ashwini confronted the accused and asked them about his phone. This lead to an argument and in a fit of anger the duo banged his head on the electric pole.

Mandale, who sustained major head injuries, collapsed in pool of blood and soon became unconscious. Ashwini screamed for help and locals rushed the injured to JJ hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. In the intervening time, the duo managed to escape from the spot.

The police rushed to the hospital and recorded the statement of victim’s wife Ashwini. A case of murder has been registered against duo.

Later, a man hunt was launched to nab the duo. The police team searched the entire Nagpada area for two hours and managed to capture the men from their hide out at Kamathipura, police added.
