Reminding a lady police officer in uniform to wear helmet while riding her two wheeler landed up two city youths in Vile Parle police station. The duo were allegedly treated like hardened criminals and were also made to squat on the floor.

Akash Deshpande, 24, a resident of Tejpal scheme at Vile Parle East and a music composer, was riding his bike with his friend Ruchit Kasde, 20, the pillion rider. When they reached Dayaldas Road, Deshpande came across a lady police sub inspector identified as Phadal, who was allegedly riding her two-wheeler without a helmet and was also talking on the phone.

On seeing this, Deshpande casually asked her, "Madam, where is your helmet?" The lady officer allegedly halted them at Milan Subway flyover, and both were taken to the Vile Parle police station in a police van.

Deshpande has an audio recording of the altercation with the lady officer, in which a woman is heard threatening to file a case of assault and of obstructing a public servant from conducting duty. He has posted the recording on social networking sites.

"My friend was slapped and we both were threatened that we will be sent to jail on false charges. At the police station, we were also made to squat on the floor like hardened criminals", said Deshpande.

The Vile Parle police fined the duo under section 110 of Bombay Police Act for creating nuisance at a public place. "The police took Rs 1,250 from me but gave a receipt of Rs 1,200. When I questioned them about the wrong amount mentioned in the receipt, they asked us to leave or else we would land behind bars", he added.

Laxman Chavan, Senior Inspector, Vile Parle police station confirmed the fine levied against the duo, but rubbished the allegations levelled by the youth, "We found them creating public nuisance so have fined them as per the Bombay Police Act. Our lady officer had not violated any traffic rules."
