It’s been more than seven months since the state government appointed Cidco as the special planning authority for villages coming under Navi Mumbai Airport Influence Notified Area (NAINA).

However, residents here are still not clear about when Cidco will start the development work. Residents are upset because they are facing lot of trouble since the local self-governing bodies are not paying attention to their problems.

“We know that the area where we stay now comes under the Cidco administration. We are also getting letters from them stating that any further development has to be carried out only after their permission. Even the representatives of the local self-government bodies (gram panchayats and panchayat samitis) have refused to listen to our problems because Cidco will carry out development work. So, we are left with no option, but to wait till Cidco solves our issues,” said Gajanan Mhaske, a resident and secretary of a housing society in Usarli.

Mhaske added that the infrastructure in the area has gone for a toss and this is evident from the deteriorating condition of roads in the village.

“Even pedestrians are unable to walk freely leave alone vehicles to move. Also, the drainage and sewage has become worst, especially since the onset of monsoon. What is surprising is that officials from local gram panchayat are least bothered about it,” he said.

Another resident stated that developers coming up with projects in these villages are trying to woo home buyers in the name of ‘future development’. They are selling the property at exorbitant rate.

“Many people fall prey to such assurances and end up investing huge money only to curse themselves later. We just want the Cidco administration to take up development work in these areas at the earliest,” he added.

According to the official, the development will be done without disturbing the current facilities. “The areas to be planned by Cidco mainly fall in Panvel, Pen, Uran, Karjat and Khalapur talukas of Raigad district. While Cidco will be only planning the infrastructure, the implementation of the plans will be the responsibility of local self-government bodies,” he said.

When contacted, Cidco managing director Sanjay Bhatia has said the concept plan for NAINA is ready and they will start implementing it once Cidco gets the nod from the state government.
