Residents of Kasarwadavali village where Hasnain Warekar killed 14 members of his own family on Sunday are angry with the police for exaggerating details of the massacre to the media. The villagers informed that Hasnain was never invited to sacrifice animals, nor he was a professional butcher.

Joint commissioner of police Ashutosh Dumbare was at the receiving end after he informed the mediapersons that Hasnain was often asked to sacrifice goats and chickens in the village. "He only offered qurbaani during Bakri-Eid which falls once in a year and it is a religious ritual which we have to follow," said a villager.

"He was never called for animal sacrifices by villagers. It's a lie," fumed Sameena Khureshi, Hasnain's neighbour.

He added: "We belong to the Butcher community and they (Warekars) are not part of our community. Hasnain was a quite boy and never got involved in any fights. This sudden killings has shocked us all."

Subiya Bharmar, the lone survivor of the massacre, threw a glass out of the window that alerted us and led to her rescue from the bungalow, said Altamash Warekar — first person to inform the villagers about the incident.

"Had she not played dead, she would have been killed as well by her brother. She showed presence of mind and acted as per the situation demanded," said Altamash.

"Police should stop making exaggerated comments about Hasnain. They should give out facts and avoid loose statements like he was a professional butcher and was often involved in sacrifices of animals", added the neighbour.
