Under-12 boys football team of St Joseph's High School, Kalamboli, wins NMSA tourny

The under-12 boys team of St Joseph’s High School, Kalamboli, won the inter-school football tournament conducted by the Navi Mumbai Sports Association (NMSA). In the final, St Joseph defeated Delhi Public School, Nerul, by 1-0.

A total of 36 teams participated in the tournament where St Joseph played five matches and won all. St Joseph played the first match against North Point School, Koparkhairane, and won by 4-0. The team then outplayed North Point in a one-sided match. They played the second match against New Horizon School, Airoli, and won by 5-0.

In the quarter-finals, they defeated St Xavier’s School, Nerul, by 2-0 while in the semi-final they defeated Christ Academy, Koparkhaiarane, by 2-0.

“Our boys played well in the semi-final with good coordination,” said Jagdish Thapa, coach of St Joseph team.

The lone winning goal against Delhi Public School, in the finals, was scored by Nayan Savekar. “Our students played extremely well in the tournament. In all the five matches they played, they did not allow their opponents to score even a single goal,” said Thapa.

Meera Kunthe, principal of St Joseph, said, “We are happy as they have made us proud by winning. The credit also goes to the coach.”
