Wading into the controversies which have engulfed revenue minister Eknath Khadse, the Shiv Sena sought his resignation, while questioning the silence of BJP top brass like chief minister Devendra Fadnavis.

Pointing to accusations like Khadse allegedly receiving calls from fugitive underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and the purchase of land belonging to the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) by his wife and son-in-law, Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha MP and Saamna executive editor Sanjay Raut said Fadnavis needed to take a stance on the issue.

Incidentally, there is no love lost between the Sena and Khadse, who had stressed on the need for the BJP to fight the 2014 state polls on its own without a truck with its saffron ally.

Claiming that the Shiv Sena voiced the sentiments of the people, Raut said while Khadse had been claiming his innocence, Fadnavis was mum.

"When an allegation of corruption is made against a minister in the state or the country, the first reaction must be given by the Prime Minister or the Chief Minister. That has not been done," he noted, adding that Sena leader and industries minister Subhash Desai had said that the Bhosari land belonged to the MIDC. "When one minister gives evidence against another minister, the chief minister must think it over," Raut claimed.

"It is a question of his (Fadnavis) image," stated Raut, adding that when allegations were made against ministers like Shashikant Sutar and Mahadeorao Shivankar during the erstwhile Shiv Sena-BJP government from 1995-1999, these ministers had quit office.

"It is a question of morality," noted Raut, while pointing to precedents, adding that prime minister Narendra Modi had promised to rid India of corruption.

"We have fought elections on the issue of corruption," said the Sena leader, adding that while former deputy chief minister Chhagan Bhujbal was in jail, BJP MP Kirit Somaiya was claiming that other NCP bigwigs would also face the same fate.
