90 students who appeared for the MBA entrance exam (the MBA-CET 2015) this month met the officials of Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) on Monday, to demand that a re-exam be conducted. The aspirants making the demand disagree with their marks, which were calculated as per the 'equi-percentile' method, and which divided students with the same marks into different percentiles.
90 students who appeared for the MBA entrance exam (the MBA-CET 2015) this month met the officials of Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) on Monday, to demand that a re-exam be conducted. The aspirants making the demand disagree with their marks, which were calculated as per the 'equi-percentile' method, and which divided students with the same marks into different percentiles.
The protesting students have called this calculation a goof-up, saying it will cost them a precious chance to get into a good college. The DTE, meanwhile, has refused to conduct the re-exam, saying that its percentile calculations are correct and are based on the fact that some exam papers had wrong questions, which were not considered while calculating the total marks.
The aggrieved students have now decided to move court against the DTE.
Rakhi Kamble, (name changed), one of the aspirants who visited the DTE office on Monday, said, "We may take time to file a PIL in the high court. But we have met the DTE officials, and showed them how the same marks of two different aspirants show different percentiles. The only solution to resolve this discrepancy in results is a re-exam. Otherwise we will miss admission in good MBA institutions."
The CET examination for MBA and MMS courses was held on 14 and 15 March. The exam was conducted in two slots, one in the morning and the other in the evening.
Dr. S.K Mahajan, DTE director, said, "We had called an expert- a director of JBIMS institute- to explain to the students how their scores were calculated. There were other officials who attended the presentation on the equi percentile method. The students were convinced that there was no mistake in calculating their marks. The re-exam cannot be conducted again."
