The story of 44-year-old Alka Punewar’s mysterious disappearance and later surfacing with boyfriend Alok Paliwal in Chennai has another twist. Punewar had plans to undergo plastic surgery before her third marriage with Paliwal to keep relatives and cops at bay.
The revelation was made by a relative of Paliwal who was questioned by the Mumbai crime branch in connection with the disappearance case.
The mangled remains of actor Punewar’s car was found at the bottom of a 700-foot gorge in Khopoli of Raigad district on December 30. While the police spotted her bag and cellphone, she was nowhere to be found. Following the incident, her husband Sanjay lodged a kidnapping complaint.
The police were probing several angles, including abduction and murder, and even had her husband Sanjay under their scanner.
However, everything changed when Punewar surfaced with Paliwal and it was learnt that she had staged her disappearance.
“One of Paliwal’s relatives had told us that Punewar wanted to undergo plastic surgery.
This was to change her identity and look so that she could not be recognised by anyone,” said inspector Nandkumar Gopale of property cell of Mumbai crime branch.
Sources said Paliwal’s relative is believed to be a surgeon in Chennai. They said Punewar had introduced herself as Nikita Mishra to him. She claimed that her parents had died in a mishap, which had also disfigured her face. “We are not sure if the surgeon was convinced with her claim as she has no apparent injury marks on her face,” said a police officer.
Alka’s affair with 29-year-old Alok Paliwal was going on for the past few years. After Alok shifted to Chennai, Alka would travel to the Tamil Nadu capital and lie to her husband that she was going for shoots.
Desperate to get hitched, the two hatched a plan last month to fool Alka’s family into believing that she’s dead.
