Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday said that Governor C Vidyasagar Rao has initiated an inquiry into the delay of the declaration of exam results by the Mumbai University.

The Opposition had raised the issue of delays in the Mumbai University results in the State Legislative Council and demanded the resignation of Mumbai University’s Vice Chancellor Sanjay Deshmukh on Thursday. Fadnavis said that the Governor has already been conducting an inquiry at his level.

“The appointment of Vice Chancellor is done by the Governor. Thus the Governor will take the decision of the resignation of the VC. It does not come under our purview. We are also monitoring the results of Mumbai University and are hopeful that they will be declared soon,” Fadnavis said.

Sunil Tatkare, NCP MLC, said students and their parents are tense because of the varsity’s fiasco of delaying results.

“Many students are likely to miss the deadline for admissions in various universities including foreign universities. The state government is not serious about this issue. Several students had taken educational loans and now there is no result. Who will compensate these parents and students?” said Tatkare.

Sources said that the Governor’s office is in touch with the secretary of higher education and University Office. “We have also sent our staffers to take the stock of the situation on daily basis. The governor is not happy with the university’s VC Deshmukh. Once all the results of Mumbai University are declared, Deshmukh and the people responsible for this fiasco will be asked to resign,” he said, requested anonymity.

Sanjay Dutt, Congress MLC said that earlier, the government had said that all results will be declared by end of July but it has been delayed to August 15 which is unfortunate.
