Paper evaluation: Count rises despite glitches, so does pay

Technical delays and glitches continued to affect teachers evaluating papers on Mumbai University's second non-instructional day. Teachers said that while the situation was slightly better than Monday, the server was slow during the afternoon, adding to the time taken to assess papers.

"The server was very slow throughout the afternoon. Papers were taking a long time to load thus reducing the evaluation speed," said a teacher at a centre in Thane.

Despite the issues, 1.05 lakh papers were evaluated and moderated on Tuesday with 5,500 teachers assessing the papers. "It is good to see that the university has crossed the desired target of 1 lakh papers per day. At this rate, the deadline of July 31 to declare the results can be met," said Vinayak Dalvie, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) appointed by the university for the process.

On Tuesday, the university cleared the pending decision to increase the remuneration of teachers for the evaluation work with a view to motivate teachers. "The circular clearing the decision to increase the remuneration has been implemented as per the vice chancellor's direction. This would motivate teachers to work hard on the evaluation," said an MU official. As per the new norms, teachers would be paid Rs 16 instead of Rs 8 per paper for undergraduate evaluation.

Ahead of the assembly session on Wednesday, MU's VC Sanjay Deshmukh met the state education minister Vinod Tawde on Tuesday to brief him on the status of evaluation.
