The Dadar Central Government Railway Police (GRP) probing the alleged suicide case of Pallavi Vikamsey, daughter of President of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), Nilesh Vikamsey, are probing whether anyone had driven her to commit suicide, with her friends and family members telling the police that there was no apparent reason for the 21-year-old law intern to end her life.

The GRP, meanwhile, is yet to recover her cellphone, and are in the process of scrutinising her Call Data Records (CDR) to identify whom she may have spoken to prior to her death.

Machindra Chavan, Assistant Commissioner of Police, GRP, said, "We are probing if the girl was pushed to end her life. We will take the statements of the persons who witnessed the incident. We are also in process of taking the statements of the motorman, guard and the station master."

"We will also take the statements of the close friends of the victim and are probing if there were personal or professional reasons which may have pushed the girl to end her life," said Chavan.

On Wednesday, Pallavi Vikamsey had visited her workplace- Oasis Counsel and Advisory in Fort after which, at 6pm, she had boarded a slow train from Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT). At 6:40 pm, the station master at Currey road railway station had informed the GRP about a mangled body of a female lying on the tracks between Currey road and Parel railway stations. At 10.30 pm, after repeated attempts to reach Pallavi were futile, her family members registered a missing persons complaint at MRA marg police station.

"We checked the CCTV camera footage of the CSMT railway station and found Pallavi speaking on the cellphone while boarding a local train. We then received information through GRP of a female commuter meeting with an accident and we went to identify the girl. Since Pallavi's description matched that of the victim,we informed her family members and they identified her,” said Sukhlal Varpe, Senior Police Inspector, MRA Marg police station.

A senior police officer privy to investigations said, "We are yet to recover the cellphone of the victim and are trying to trace it through its IMEI number and tower location. The CDR will be studied thoroughly and we will record statements of the person to whom Pallavi has spoken before her death. In the CCTV footage, Pallavi is also seen speaking to someone at CSMT railway station before entering a slow train. We will also record statements of family members to whom she sent the last message, 'no one is responsible'.”

"We have taken an initial statement of the deceased's father, Nilesh and elder brother, Jihaan. We will take detailed statements from from the duo,” said the officer.

A close friend of Pallavi who visited the Vikamsey residence at Kalpataru Habitat building in Parel on Friday afternoon said, "We met her at the college, but she did not seem tense or depressed. She had also participated in a mock legal case competition recently. All friends in our group are in shock and we could not believe she could take such an extreme step. The police should probe her death thoroughly."

When DNA spoke to Pallavi's family members at their residence in Kalpataru Habitat building at Parel, they did not wish to comment.
