Dhvani Desai (in pic), a Breach Candy resident, doesn’t shy away from calling herself a one-man army.

It’s a title she has honoured herself with because it helps her bulldoze issues that made her hopeless —against corruption, non-governance and lack of transparency, till a few years ago.
Life changed for her when she invoked the RTI Act.

“This Act can give people a real sense of empowerment,” she says. Desai’s tryst with the Act started over her building and her ailing mother. Her mother was down with malaria not once but twice.

“Something had to be done as, at that age, the illnesses can be threatening,” said Desai. After repeated complaints, Desai decided to invoke the RTI Act.

“The result was unbelievable. The moment I filed an application, a team from the pest control department fumigated the building and even supplied medicines,” said Desai.
