In yet another suicide from the Bandra Worli Sea Link, a 45-year-old man jumped off the bridge on Monday morning.

The man has been identified as Vikram Girish Vasudev, a resident of Gurudev Society in Prabhadevi.

The Bandra police said between 6am and 6.30am Vasudev got on the sea link from the Worli end in his WagonR car, and just before the Bandra exit, he stopped his car and jumped. "A security guard posted near the sea link saw the car being parked. When Vasudev got out of the vehicle, the guard shouted out to him, told him not to jump, but Vasudev ignored his shouts," said Mumbai Police spokesperson deputy commissioner of police Dhananjay Kulkarni.

The police and the fire brigade were called immediately to look for Vasudev. However, his body could not be recovered, and he's been feared dead by the police.

Officers said as per Vasudev's wife Pooja, he has been disturbed for the last four years after the couple lost their son Jay to brain tumour. Recently, Vasudev had started facing a financial crisis as well.

Kulkarni said, "The recent suicides from the sea link are disturbing, and we will do whatever we can do from our end to stop this trend."

The Mumbai Police has decided to restrict pedestrians from venturing on the sea link, and also plan to increase the frequency of patrols made by policemen on motorcycle from one end to the other.

"We will stop pedestrians who try to walk on the sea link. There are constables who patrol the sea link at regular intervals, but we will step up the vigil, and ask them to take rounds more often," Kulkarni said.
