One dies in two accidents at Bandra-Worli Sea Link

According to Worli police, the first accident took place around 1am on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday. A Tata Sumo car was heading towards Worli via BSWL, when the driver lost his control over the vehicle and dashed into another car from behind.

Two accidents were reported on Bandra Worli Sea Link (BWSL) on wee hours of Monday. One person was killed and four were left injured when a car dashed another car on the sea link, while a traffic constable was hit by another speeding vehicle when he was carrying out the panchnama of the first accident.

According to Worli police, the first accident took place around 1am on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday. A Tata Sumo car was heading towards Worli via BSWL, when the driver lost his control over the vehicle and dashed into another car from behind.

"The Sumo car was coming from the Bandra-end and was heading towards Worli when the driver lost his control over the car and rammed into another car from behind. A total of five people were there in Sumo car, while three people were present in another car," said Vinay Kulkarni, senior police inspector from Worli police station.

He added, "The impact of the accident was such, that out of the five in the Sumo car, one died on his way to the hospital, while the other four were seriously injured. The injured were rushed to KEM hospital."

The deceased was identified as Ankit Shantaram Phondake (28) while the injured were idenified as Sandeep Nagvekar (24), who was driving the car, Vilas Navele (23), Nikhil Dhotre(22), Bhaven Patel (23) and Ankit Pendekar(24).

The police placed Nagvekar under arrest and booked him under sections 279, 304A, 337, and 338 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and under relevent sections of the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988.

Meanwhile, in another accident that took place at the same spot, a traffic constable posted with Bandra traffic division was injured after a speeding car dashed him. The constable was allegedly carrying out the punchnama of the first accident that took place on the BWSL.

The constable was identified as Sanjay Krishna (35) while the driver of the car was identified as Dheeraj Rajendra Sansare (22).

"Sansare was in his car alone and was heading towards Worli, when at the same spot, he too lost his control over the vehicle and dashed his car to the constable who was attending the first car accident," said Kulkarni. He added, "The constable sustained fracture in his left hand and was admitted to Bombay hospital. We have arrested Sansare and was booked for rash and negligent driving."

The police informed that prima facie both Sansare and Nagvekar were not drunk. "We are awaiting the medical report of both the accused and if any of the accused was found drunk we will add additional sections," Kulkarni added.
