The number of abandoned pets after Christmas and the cat breeding season leaves the organisations working for animal rights out of space and resources. One such Mumbai based NGO, Youth Organisation in Defence of Animals (YODA) is now seeking the help of public in dealing with the unprecedented flood of puppies, kittens and dogs arriving at their shelter.
The NGO received around 30 pets in the first week of 2105 from across the city. As per the NGO, most of these pets are either abandoned by families who go on vacations and have no one to take care of their pets or the pets were sent as gifts where they just get rejected and left on roads. There is a massive increase in the number of these abandoned pets particularly towards the end of December.
The two-room customised shelter, in Mahim Koliwada area, like others across the city is dealing with an influx of such deserted animals. This escalating number of abandoned pets has placed significant stress on the shelter facility, staff and volunteers, who are working to provide daily care and treatment for every animal. An NGO, funded primarily by public donations, claim that their mission is to prevent cruelty and to promote welfare of animals, but are falling short of their goal.

If you wish to give a new home to these animals, visit YODAfor details.
