Not only the Nanar refinery project but also BJP and Shiv Sena's alliance is at stake over the partys' differences on the project. The latest spat over Nanar project would have its impact on possible cabinet expansion and announcements on various Corporations.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis-led state government is a mega-alliance government with partners like BJP, Shiv Sena, RPI (Athawale faction), Rashtriya Samaj Party led by Minister Mahadev Jankar, Shiv Sangram Sanghatana led by MLC Vinayak Mete, who is also heading the committee for Shivaji Maharaj Memorial at Arabian Sea. Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana leader and MP Raju Shetti has pulled out of the government after his strained relationship with new minister and his ex-colleague, Sadabhau Khot.

It was expected that Fadnavis could affect either Cabinet expansion or announce appointments on various Corporations. There were talks and rounds of discussions between the BJP and Sena leaders over choosing Corporations but Nanar controversy and war of words would have its impact on this process.

It was on April 11 when Saudi oil giant, Saudi Aramco signed MoU for Nanar refinery with consortium of Indian oil companies. Interestingly, Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackeray was abroad when this MoU was inked. It was just after Thackeray's rally that Fadnavis gave a media bite and the media's attention was diverted to discussion on BJP-Sena's spat over Nanar instead of Uddhav's rally.

Meanwhile, Congress and NCP have criticised both BJP and Shiv Sena over their war of words on Nanar refinery project. Congress leader and leader of Opposition in state Assembly, Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil has questioned Sena, saying, "If Modi is the villain then is Shiv Sena's side villain too in BJP's dirty picture?'. Leader of Oppositon in state Legislative Council and NCP leader Dhananjay Munde has said it was a farce that Sena minister announces withdrawal of notification. Mumbai congress chief Sanjay Nirupam has criticised BJP and Sena by terming the alliance as a circus where every alliance partner behaves in his own way contradicting each other.
