The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is gearing up to face the team from Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) of the Central government. The Ministry will send a team  from the Quality Council of India (QCI) which will survey the city areas from January 7-9 for its cleanliness quotient. While Mumbai will be competing with several other cities from Maharashtra, a similar survey is being conducted across the country in other cities.

A civic official said that Mumbai will be assessed on the basis of marks given out of a total of 2000 marks. This will include 450 marks for citizen feedback, 500 marks for independent observations done by the surveyors, 900 marks for documentation on how equipped the BMC and its officials are and 150 marks for how fast complaints from the complaint redressal mobile app were being redressed. The results are expected to be announced in February 2017.

The parameters on which the marks will be given are segregation of waste, whether bulk generators in the city are composting their waste, door-to-door collection of waste, number of toilets compared to the target the BMC had set, biometric attendance of workers, cleanliness of water bodies etc.

The civic official also said that actor Salman Khan would be their brand ambassador and put out a video message asking citizens to vote for Mumbai as part of its citizen survey.
