Mumbai police going through speech, netas call for action

According to sources, a deputy commissioner of police (DCP) rank officer has been ordered to examine the speech and the police would take an appropriate decision based on his report.

The Mumbai police is going through the speech delivered by MNS chief Raj Thackeray to check if any controversial statement was made by the leader that could pose law and order problem in the city.

According to sources, a deputy commissioner of police (DCP) rank officer has been ordered to examine the speech and the police would take an appropriate decision based on his report.

DCP (Detection) and Mumbai police spokesperson Dhananjay Kulkarni said: "We are going through the speech and till now there has been no offence registered in this regard."

Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party legislator and its state president Abu Asim Azmi condemned the statement and sought action against Raj. He warned that the SP would not remain a mute spectator in case poor rickshaw drivers were targeted.

Leader of the opposition in the legislative council Dhananjay Munde said no one had the right to take the law in their hands, while BJP MLA Yogesh Sagar called it Raj's "political childishness" and added that the issue of Marathi was being raked up with an eye on the BMC polls.

Former minister and Congress MLA Nasim Khan too demanded action against Raj.
