Two girls aged six and nine years were raped and murdered and their bodies were found in a bad state.
Serial rapist and paedophile, Rehan Qureshi (34), who has been the main accused for the rape and murder of two minor girls at Nehru Nagar in 2010, allegedly molested over 20 girls, said Navi Mumbai police. Many such cases have been registered against Qureshi for rape and molestation of minor girls at different police stations in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane and Palghar and he was also arrested for the offences.
According to the Navi Mumbai police, Qureshi was arrested in the said dual rape-murder case after his DNA samples matched with the samples taken from the crime spot in 2010 and also with the samples of semen found from the bodies of the girls after they were raped.
According to the Navi Mumbai police, after the offence was registered at Nehru Nagar police station, around 1,500 DNA samples were taken from people in the locality. After the case was handed over to the Crime Investigation Department (CID), rigorous investigation gave some leads in the case and later concrete scientific evidence was obtained from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) at Kalina; this clearly highlighted Qureshi’s role behind the plot.
“Qureshi has stayed at about seven to eight places in the last 15 years including Kurla, Kharghar and Mira Road. He has also been to Saudi Arabia to get employment. After the initial two rapes and killings, he went underground and he mainly targeted young girls considering the fact that they were gullible to give in. Qureshi was scared of being caught so he limited his criminal activities.” said Commission of Police, Navi Mumbai, Sanjay Kumar.
Police confirmed that in a web of collected DNA samples, the task to catch up the guilty was not easy as it may appear. Two girls aged six and nine years were raped and murdered and their bodies were found in a bad state.
