The Bandra police have registered a case against a 19-year-old youth and have arrested him on the charges of allegedly outraging a modesty of a girl. The accused is said to be pursuing higher education abroad and his family is reportedly non-natives of Mumbai. According to the police, the accused got in touch with the victim on a social networking platform and began stalking her several times on different occasions. Despite being discouraged by the victim several times, he tried to woo her.

"Eventually after getting saturated by his behaviour, the victim asked the accused to meet her in an attempt to put a stop to his actions. Again the accused refused to comply and threatened to defame her online," said a police officer from the Bandra police station.

"The victim then sought legal help. She registered a complaint against the accused after which he was arrested on the basis of her allegations and the gravity of the offense. We are now investigating the case from all possible angles to make sure that no fact is overlooked. Also, we are gathering information from online platforms which the accused used to operate. At present his cell phone is under examination.

Further details shall be revealed after a detailed search and careful investigation. The accused has been arrested under Section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the Indian Penal Code and he will be in police custody till Monday," said senior police inspector of Bandra police station, Girish Anavkar.
