The Azad Maidan police have arrested a 65-year-old man for allegedly smashing the face and head of a man with paver block on Saturday night, near Churchgate in South Mumbai.

The accused has been identified as Vijayan Tewar(65). After killing the victim, he also sexually assaulted him.

According to the police, the victim Vikram Inama (23), was found in a pool of blood, with his head and face smashed with a paver block near Azad Maidan on Saturday night. The police said the victim was spotted by a police constable Gopal Narsingh near the income tax office, while he was on his patrolling duty. "He was immediately taken to St. George hospital where he was declared dead. The paver block was covered in blood when we found it.

After the postmortem, we immediately registered a case of murder and began the probe," said a police officer from Azad Maidan Police Station.

"During the investigation, we found the CCTV footage of the area in which a man could be seen hitting Ninama and also sexually assaulting him. We then immediately started looking for the accused and traced him on Sunday. He told us that they were known to each other and he had killed him over some monetary dispute," the police officer added.
