The Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) felicitated a few doctors for following the best medical ethics. The felicitation came after the council reprimanded doctors for violating medical ethics. The winners include three doctors from Mumbai.

The award, which was conceptualised two years back, was given earlier to 13 doctors across the state. "These doctors were awarded based on seven criterion. It will be given to encourage others," said Dr Shivkumar Utture, member of MMC.

Dr Sagar Mundada, president of Central Maharashtra Association of Resident doctors (MARD) said that beside a citation, each doctor also got Rs1 lakh cash prize. The awards were presented to the winners in a function on April 17 in the city.

The names of award winners in various categories from the city are senior orthopaedic surgeons Dr Sanjeev Chaudhary and Dr Sudhir Babhulkar, associate professor of anaesthesia from IGGMC Dr Vaishali Shelgaonkar and former head of nephrology at Super Speciality Hospital Dr Viresh Gupta. The other doctors are Dr Kavita Renge-Satav from Melghat (Mahan, NGO) and Dr Varsha Warke from Akola. Dr Vijaya Ahirao from Dhule, Dr Rajendra Prasad Tiwari from Dahanu and Dr Seema Khinwasra and Dr Lahu Kadam from Pune also received the award.
