The opening of the Phase-1 of the Nerul-Seawoods- Uran line has brought double cheer to the residents of Ulwe. In view of the inaugural function, City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) has repaired internal roads of Ulwe node on Saturday. The inauguration of the Nerul-Seawoods-Uran line is scheduled on Sunday morning.

State chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, minister for railways Piyush Goyal among other senior railway and CIDCO officials will visit the Kharkopar railway station for inaugural function.

Residents alleged that despite their repeated pleas, the internal roads of Ulwe, especially sector 17 and 18 were dotted with potholes and neglected for a long time. "Thanks to the new railway line, this has brought double cheer for us," said Sunil Ramakrishnana, a resident of sector 17 in Ulwe. Despite repeated attempts, CIDCO officials were not available for comment.

Aman Verma, another resident of sector 18 said that the whole monsoon passed, but they never bothered to repair the roads. "It was a nightmare during the monsoon to drive the car. There were potholes in junction of sector 17," said Verma.

However, residents are happy that their bumpy ride is over and the roads are repaired. They are also delighted about the new railway route. "Reaching home in the night at Ulwe was difficult. Now, with rail connectivity and good roads, living in Ulwe node is no more a trouble," said Verma.

The Ulwe node saw slow development in basic amenities like road, sewage, and street light. Still, there are roads in the Ulwe node where streetlights have not been installed. A few years ago, in the absence of sewage treatment plant (STP), people were not keen to live in Ulwe area. "But now, I can plan to come and stay in my own home in Ulwe," said Pritam Shah, who owns a house in Ulwe buy currently stays at Nerul.
