Upset over the non-functioning of the central coordination cell of the Lodha Paradise Co-operative Housing Society Federation, residents have formed a Lodha Paradise Bachao Group (LPBG) and have called for a meeting to assess members' opinion and seek advice regarding the problems they are facing.

According to the group, the federation is ineffective and there was no one to solve their problems. Recently, Lodha developers demolished the society gate and has not constructed a new one. BR Morgaonkar of the group said: "A few weeks back, the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) sealed the club house for non-payment of property tax. Fearing such problems, the members of the society formed the LPBG."

Dr. Vishnu Sarode, Dr. Nana Pradhan, Premanand Banage, JP Soni, Madhuri Ranshinge and Ravindra Chavan as well as senior citizens and women groups attended the meeting. Dr. Pradhan and Premanand Banage are still committee members of the federation, but have stopped attending its meetings.

The complex's sewerage treatment plant is chocked with waste dumped in the drainage by an eatery attached to the building. But the federation has done nothing about this. According to Vishnu Sarode, the federation supports vendors selling their ware inside the complex. He added that they did not have a proper security arrangement leading to outsiders moving in and out of the complex freely even during night.

"The club house is still in the name of the builder, and the common area is yet to be demarcated, hence we are planning to seek the advice of a retired deputy registrar of societies on what has to be done," LPG members said.

According to a Lodha Paradise officer, the "management was not happy with the design of the gate and hence it was razed. In a month's time, a new one will be installed. He also said residents had not paid the common area maintenance charge for the past six and-a-half years following which property tax was not paid leading to the club house being sealed.
