Thousands of people travelling every day on the Konkan Railway (KR) route can heave a sigh of relief as the Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel have been able to crack some recent cases of theft of important train-running equipment. These thefts were delaying trains and creating hardship for people on the single-line route.

According to KR officials, in two incidents recently, thefts of 210 elastic rail clips (ERC), 139 liners, 2 joggle fish plates and 2 C-clamps were stolen from railway tracks. Both the incidents occurred over a fortnight in January, between Adavali and Vilavade stations in Ratnagiri region.

A case was registered by KR at Lanja police station near Ratnagiri.

Recently, Lanja police arrested one suspect named Madan Shankar Wadkar, 55, and recovered part of the booty from him. “People should call up KR RPF on 9004470730 if they notice anyone indulging in such criminal activities,” said a KR official.
