After demonetisation of Rs 500/1000 notes, KDMC collected a whopping Rs 32 crores as property tax, water bills and other dues from its citizens in the last week. However, there are still those who failed to pay up their water bills and the civic body has now launched a water de-connection spree against the offenders.
On Wednesday KDMC (Kalyan Dombivli municipal corporation) disconnected water connections of major offenders. "These people had not paid their water bills and failed to do so even after we were accepting demonetised notes as per the government's scheme since last week," says Prasad Thakur, public relations officer, KDMC.
Hence, these offenders which include big housing societies of Kalyan and owe dues up to Rs 49.92 lacs to KDMC had to let go of their water connection. "We will be taking strict action against property tax and water bill defaulters as per our commissioner's order," says he.
