Within 24 hours of the Bombay High Court ruling in favour of Reliance Energy Limited on the Metro fare issue, the Mumbai Metro One Private One Limited (MMOPL) led by RInfra hiked the tariff from Friday morning.

After the judgment on Thursday, RInfra officials did not announce when the fares would be hiked from Rs10-15-20 to Rs10-20-30-40. However, a decision was taken by RInfra management on Thursday night, and overnight the fare system was updated to charge the revised fares. Around 3am, Mumbai Metro's website too was updated with the fare chart.

On the fare hike, an MMOPL spokesperson said, "After the decision of the court, MMOPL has implemented its initial fare. It will help MMOPL provide sustainable transport service to the city of Mumbai."

MMOPL has reiterated that the fares that have come into effect from Friday are the "initial fares", while the ones being charged for the last six months were "promotional fares".

Those travelling with tokens will have to pay the revised fare of Rs10-20-30-40 along the Versova-Ghatkopar route, whereas those with smart cards will get discounted fare. Instead of Rs40, a maximum fare of Rs32 will be charged.
